Cy Creek High alum Paul Janish and the Braves ease past the Astros
Cy Creek High School graduate Paul Janish and the Atlanta Braves beat the Houston Astros 4-1 Aug. 3.
Janish went 1-for-4 in the victory.
On the season, Janish is batting .203 with four RBIs.
Janish has played in 22 games for the Braves this season after being acquired in a mid-season trade with the Cincinnati Reds. Janish had played with Cincinnati since 2008.
After a stellar career at Cy Creek, Janish played college baseball at Rice University for three seasons. He was drafted by Cincinnati in the fifth round, 138th overall, of the 2004 Major League Baseball draft. He spent parts of five seasons in the Reds organization before making his Major League debut May 14, 2008.
In 2004, following his first professional season, Janish received the Dernell Stenson Award as the Most Valuable Player of the Florida Instructional League. Prior to the 2005 and 2006 seasons, he was rated by Baseball America as the best defensive infielder in the Reds' organization.
