Cy Creek HS grad Janish contributes to big inning in Atlanta loss
Paul Janish, a 2001 graduate of Cypress Creek High School, walked and scored a run in a four-run ninth inning as the Atlanta Braves almost overcame a five-run deficit before losing 6-5 to the New York Mets on Aug. 3, in Major League Baseball action.
Janish was 1-for-3 in the game, and made two great defensive plays. Since moving to Atlanta in a trade last month, Janish has provided steady defense at shortstop for a team that appears headed for the playoffs.
After a stellar career at Cy Creek, Janish played college baseball at Rice University for three seasons. He was picked by the Cincinnati Reds in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2004 Major League Baseball draft. He spent parts of five seasons in the Reds organization before making his Major League debut on May 14, 2008.
