Post students support Houston Ronald McDonald House
Post Elementary School students donated more than 100 pounds of soda can tabs to support the Ronald McDonald House in Houston.
Post Elementary students collected 57 pounds of tabs for recycling in the 2010-11 school year and 59 pounds in the 2011-12 school year. Ronald McDonald House recycles the tabs, using the money to help children being treated for serious illnesses in Texas Medical Center institutions.
"We were extremely proud of our students for thinking of others and donating so many tabs," co-organizer Alicia Almanza said in a press release. "They came together and even got their families involved to help these local families coping with sick children."
Almanza and co-organizer Carrie Ibrahim, physical education teachers at Post Elementary, borrowed the idea from a church class that is also donating to the Ronald McDonald House.
