Cy-Creek teacher wins social studies award

Cypress Creek High School teacher Felicia Hayes has won the Texas Council for the Social Studies Outstanding High School Teacher Award for 2012.    The TCSS Outstanding Teacher Award is given to elementary, middle and high school teachers for exemplary teaching and community participation in social studies councils. Donna Pahmiyer, Cypress Creek director of instruction, nominated Hayes for her outstanding work in the social studies department.    "Mrs. Hayes is the epitome of a 21st-century social studies teacher," Pahmiyer said in a press release. "She is committed to social studies education as well as the welfare of the students at Cypress Creek High School. She continues to impress me with her knowledge, skill and dedication to her work, and is an excellent representative of the Texas Council for the Social Studies."   A social studies teacher and the 2011-2012 president-elect for the Cypress Fairbanks Council for Social Studies, Hayes has participated in a number of community programs through social studies organizations.    She also serves as the academy coordinator for the Education and Human Services career academy at Cypress Creek High School, mentoring at-risk students while keeping track of grades, attendance and behavior.    For more information about Cy-Fair ISD, visit www.cfisd.net.
