Schools compete for cash prizes in Willowbrook Mall's 2012-13 My School's Cool Program
Fourteen area schools are competing for $20,000 in cash prizes.
The Houston schools are participating in My School's Cool, Willowbrook Mall's community program that will award cash prizes to schools earning the most points during the 2012-13 school year. Schools in the program earn points through a variety of ways, including submitting receipts from mall purchases and promoting the program through school newsletters.
This year's list of participating schools includes Bang Elementary, Black Elementary, Campbell Middle, Cook Middle, Epps Island Elementary, Farney Elementary, Frazier Elementary, Goodman Elementary, Hamilton Elementary, Keith Elementary, Matzke Elementary, Moore Elementary, Reed Elementary and St. Anne Catholic School-Tomball.
The program provides a level playing field for all schools regardless of enrollment numbers by choosing winners based on the number of points per student. This allows smaller schools to compete with bigger schools.
Since the program was launched in 2010, Willowbrook Mall has awarded $40,000 in prize money to area schools, according to a press release.
Schools began collecting points for the competition Aug. 1. Receipts that are dated Aug. 1 through Monday, April 15, 2013 are eligible to be turned in for points.
A complete list of rules is available at the Willowbrook Mall Management Office.
