Cy Creek High releases girls varsity volleyball schedule

Even though the Cougars have dropped their last two contests to Cy-Fair and Cy Woods, head coach Tami Combs has her squad off to a fast start, going 6-3 overall and 1-1 in District 17 play.   With 18 games and two tournaments left on its schedule, Cy Creek has plenty of opportunity to have a special season.   Next up for the Cougars is the Spring Branch Classic tournament, hosted by Memorial, Northbrook, Spring Woods and Stratford High Schools at four locations from Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 23-25. With the potential for four matches, Cy Creek will take on Bryan High School at 5 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the tournament at Memorial High School. Should the Cougars win, they would play the winner of the Cinco Ranch-Austin matchup. Should the Cougars lose, they would take on the loser of that match.   After nearly a week off, Cy Creek travels to district foe Cy Springs High School at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, before hosting a pair of home matches against Cy Ranch High School at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, and Klein Oak High School at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.   The Cougars final tournament has the potential for three more matches and will take place at Kingwood High School Thursday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 8. Match times and opponents are to be announced.   District matches fill out the remainder of the Cougars' schedule, with an away contest at Cy Woods High School at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, followed by consecutive home matches against Cy Lakes High School at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, and Cy-Ridge High School at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11.   The Cougars will travel to Jersey Village at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, before meeting Cy Falls for the second of three meetings at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, before back-to-back road contests at Langham Creek at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, and a second meeting with Cy-Fair at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25.   Digging into the second half of the district schedule, Cy Creek will host Cy Springs at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, before traveling to Cy Ranch at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, and welcoming Cy Woods at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.   The second week of October hands the Cougars a two-match road trip to Cy Lakes and Cy Ridge, Tuesday, Oct. 9, and Friday, Oct. 12, with both matches beginning at 6 p.m.   Jersey Village visits the Cougars for Parents Night at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16. Cy Creek's final road contest will be its third meeting of the season with Cy Falls at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19.   To finish regular-season play, Cy Creek's Senior Night opponent is Langham Creek at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23.   Should the Cougars qualify, post-season play is set to begin Saturday, Oct. 27, with district certification matches, followed by bi-district playoffs Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 29-30, and area championships Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 1-3.   State playoff regional quarterfinals will be held Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 5-6; regional finals Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10; and state finals Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 15-17.   Cy Creek High School is located at 9815 Grant Road, Houston.   For more information about Cougars volleyball, visit cycreekabc.com/volleyball/index.html.
