Cy-Fair elementary schools participate in Million Father March
The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District encouraged fathers of area students to participate in the Million Father March by taking their children to elementary school on Aug. 27, the first day of classes.
An estimated 1.1 million fathers from 800 cities across the country participated in the event, according to a press release from district officials.
All Cy-Fair ISD elementary schools also encouraged fathers to participate in its Meet the Teacher events across the district. Research shows that children whose fathers are active in their education earn better grades and are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college, according to the release.
The district's Partners in Education Department is currently seeking father volunteers to read, tutor and mentor students throughout the school year.
