Alexandra Piotrowski recently earned the Girl Scouts of the USA Gold Award.

Alexandra Piotrowski, of Cy-Fair, was presented the Girl Scouts of the USA Gold Award by the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

The award is the organization's highest honor, with less than five percent of Girl Scouts achieving the award Candidates must complete two to three years of award achievements and more than 100 community service hours. The Gold Award project is one of the last hurdles, requiring candidates to plan and carry out their own significant community service project.

Piotrowski produced and directed a play performed at two area assisted living facilities. She led a team of volunteers in rehearsing a play to be performed for the residents.

"I chose this project because I love theater, and I wanted to incorporate that love into my project," said Piotrowski according to a press release.

Piotrowski is a 2012 graduate of Jersey Village High School, where she was a member of drama, choir, broadcast journalism and the National Honor Society. This fall she is attending college to study English and hopes to go to law school. She was a Girl Scouts member for 13 years.

Girl Scouts of the USA has a membership of 3.2 million and aims to help cultivate social conscience and self-esteem in young girls while teaching life skills.
