Culinary students from the Cy-Fair Independent School District recently won first through third places at the Greater Houston Area Cupcake Battle held recently at Pasadena Rayburn High School.

Senior Kaylen Gonzalez from Cy-Fair High School earned first place for her Reeses Cupcake entry. Phillip Morado, also a senior from Cy-Fair High School, took home second place for his Triple Chocolate Pistachio Cupcake. Third place went to senior Nancy Lopez from Cy Ridge High School for her Mocha Cupcake.

Other superlative awards were also given to Cy-Fair ISD students, including Shelby Richey, a sophomore from Cy Woods High School, who won the Best Cake award for her Turtle Cupcake and Ajee Hayes, Cy Ridge High School senior, who won the Most Elaborate Technique award for her Peach Cobbler Cupcake.

"It is a remarkable achievement to have their cupcakes chosen from the approximately 140 entries," said Mark Williams, career and technical education coordinator, in a press release. "These students and their teachers worked diligently and their hard work paid off."

The event was sponsored by the Hospitality Educators Association of Texas.
