Volunteers from The Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints recently helped Cy-Fair Independent School District's Science Resource Center develop plastic chemistry kits for students.

According to a press release, 60 youth volunteers assisted SRC staff Wednesday, Oct. 24 in creating 2,400 kits that will be used to teach approximately 9,000 fifth graders in 52 schools about endothermic and exothermic reactions. The effort saved staff members six to eight weeks of work, according to Alice Flood, manager of the Science Resource Center.

"It is rare to have such a large group here at one time," Flood said in the press release. "They finished 2,400 kits in less than an hour. We were amazed and thrilled. Now we can turn our attention to other projects."

"I really enjoyed this experience," Caitlyn Clark, a 12-year-old volunteer, said in the release. "It made me feel happy to know that I helped to do something that made such a difference in the work load for the staff members here."

Flood said the Science Resource Center is always looking for volunteers.

"We are especially appreciative of community volunteers who are willing to give of their time and talents to help our science teachers enhance classroom experiences," Flood said in the release.

The Science Resource Center is located at 11206 Telge Road, Cypress.
