LSC-CyFair holding new student orientation sessions

Registration is now open for Lone Star College-CyFair's new student orientation sessions.

The series will be held from Wednesday, Nov. 14 through Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, and sessions are scheduled for mornings and afternoons Wednesdays and Fridays, with one Saturday morning session in January. An orientation for veterans only will be available in December, according to a press release.

"During orientation, students will learn how to view their myLonestar account, meet with an advisor and be able to register on the spot for spring classes, which start Jan. 14," Rito Silva, dean of student services, said in the release. "In addition, orientation includes an Advising 101 session that covers the registration process, paying for classes, adds and drops, financial aid, parking, bookstore, the difference between college and high school, FERPA and major and transfer information."

Two orientation sessions — Thursday, Nov. 29 and Wednesday, Dec. 12 — will be held at the LSC-Fairbanks Center at 14955 Northwest Freeway. All other sessions will take place at the Barker Cypress campus, 9191 Barker Cypress Road at West Road, Cypress.

All orientations are free, but space is limited. Students must preregister online at www.lonestar.edu/cyfair-orientation to receive a confirmation with room and program information.
