CFISD high school students take home awards

Students from Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District earned 39 awards at the 2012 Association of Texas Photography Instructors Fall Contest on Friday, Nov. 16.

More than 77 schools entered more than 7,500 photographs for the contest. Six judges spent eight hours going through all the entries which came from as far as Washington and New York.

The following students from CFISD earned awards:

Emily deVillasante, a junior at Cypress Woods High School, earned Best in Show in the Advanced category.

The following students earned first place: Cara McConnell, from Langham Creek, in Advanced Travel; Trevor Hargis and Keitha Hanks, from Jersey Village, in Advanced Video-PSA/Advertisement (Follow Your Dreams); and Hunter Miertschin, from Jersey Village, in Beginning/Middle School Video-PSA/Advertisement (Support The Troops).

Second place went to Matthew Bierwagen and Daniel Mulholland, from Jersey Village, in Advanced Video-Music (Dont Send Me Roses); Edwin Campos and Clare Wineman, from Jersey Village, in Advanced Video-News (Health Science Newscast); James Owens and Joy Travis, from Jersey Village, in Advanced Video-PSA/Advertisement (Every Second Counts); and Isabella Herrera and Kim Tran, from Jersey Village, in Beginning/Middle School Video-PSA/Advertisement (Cherish Your Friends).

Third place went to Valeri Mosher, from Cypress Ranch, in Advanced Black and White Darkroom Print; Cara McConnell, from Langham Creek, in Advanced Digitally Constructed Single Image; and AJ Gonzalez, from Jersey Village, in Advanced Video-PSA/Advertisement (Get Unplugged).

The first honorable mentions were Kelly Quintero, from Cypress Ranch, in Advanced Alternative Process; Joshua Mory, from Cypress Ranch, in Advanced Black and White Darkroom Print; and Mahnoor Ahmed, from Cypress Woods, in Advanced Portfolio.
