CFISD students bring home journalism awards

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District students from five area high schools brought home a number of awards from the Journalism Education Association 2012 National Convention held Thursday to Sunday, Nov. 15-18 in San Antonio.

The convention brought together hundreds of journalism students from across the country and featured a write-off contest. The CFISD contest winners were among 679 students nationwide to win either a Superior, Excellent or Honorable Mention award.

The CFISD Superior award winners included Alex Edwards, of Cy-Fair High School for feature writing, Peter Scales, of Cy-Fair High School for yearbook copy/caption: student life, Leah Lebeau, of Cypress Falls High School for broadcast feature story, Tashrima Hossain, of Cypress Falls High School for news writing, and Rebecca Moscoso, of Jersey Village High School for yearbook copy/caption: sports.

Excellent award recipients included Natalie Berry, of Cy-Fair High School for commentary writing, Skylar Campbell, of Cypress Creek High School for yearbook copy/caption: student life, and Amy Cunningham, of Cypress Falls High School for feature writing.

Honorable Mention winners included Akilah Smith, of Cypress Creek High Schoo, Amelia Tidwell, of Cypress Creek High School, Deanna Narveson, of Cypress Creek High School, Jenna Moreland, of Cypress Creek High School, Zachary Babb, of Cypress Falls High School, Marieke Alsguth, of Jersey Village High School, and Matt DuBose, of Jersey Village High School.
