Fine Arts Council to host auditions for playwrighting festival

The Houston Fine Arts Council is committed to helping the next generation of artists fine tune their talent during the 10 Minute Playwriting Festival in January.

Auditions will be held from 7-10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 and Friday, Jan. 4 for anyone who would like a role in one of the 10-minute plays. Auditions will be at 10760 Grant Road, Houston.

In October, 10 beginning playwrights participated in a master class with playwright and veteran director Rob Urbinati.

According to a release, they carefully crafted 10 short, 10-minute plays, which will be fully produced by HFAC.

Actors are encouraged to try out for roles in one of the 10-minute plays Wednesday, Jan. 2 and Friday, Jan. 4. Auditions will be cold reads and no monologues will be required. Character breakdowns will be posted on the fine arts council's website in a few days, the news release states. Actors will need to call the council to request an audition.

Table reads will be from 7-10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9. Parts will be assigned and scripts distributed prior to the auditions. All parts must be memorized by Sunday, Jan. 13 and rehearsals will be Sunday, Jan. 13 to Friday, Jan. 18.

Performances will be Friday to Sunday, Jan. 18-20.

Admission is $10.

The following writers will be showcased: Chaz Padilla, Tom Yost, Julie Herman, Israel Santana, Mark McClemmens, Susan Stitt, Kristi Nicholson, Henry Simpson, Channing Freeman and Lisa Garza.
