Cy Creek grad Mataya contributes to Southwestern win
Cy Creek High School graduate Daniel Mataya scored one point as Southwestern University (Texas) defeated conference rival Colorado College on Friday, Jan. 25 at Reid Arena in Colorado Springs, the Southwestern website reported.
The Southwestern junior forward also recorded three rebounds, one assist and two steals for the Pirates, who improved to 7-11 on the season and 3-5 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Southwestern University (Texas)'s next game is 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27 at University of Dallas.
Mataya played at Cypress Creek in 2006-2010, lettering in basketball. He is the son of Tony and Janie Mataya.
