Cy Fair ISD projects future opening of 179-acre school site
The board of trustees of the Cy-Fair Independent School District approved a tentative opening date for a future 179-acre campus that will contain three new schools.
According to a district press release, the site to be developed by PBK is located just off FM 529 between the Grand Parkway and Fry Road, in Cypress. The acreage will contain an elementary school, a middle school and a high school slated for opening in approximately four years.
"This is the area we are projecting to have substantial growth in the next few years," said Marty Edwards, director of general administration for CFISD, in the press release. "Although the site isn't in a developing community, these schools wouldn't open until the 2016-17 school year, and the high school would open just as a ninth- and 10th-grade campus."
Opening dates for the three new schools will depend on financial constraints and updated enrollment projections, according to Edwards. The project is part of the 2007 voter-approved bond fund for 14 new schools in the district. Four schools have already been built and are now open.
Plans for the new campus site reflect enrollment growth being experienced in Cy-Falls, Cy-Lakes and Cy-Springs high schools. In addition, several middle schools, including Cook, Dean, Hopper, Labay, Thornton and Truittare, are projected to be over capacity by the 2015-16 school year.
"Growth in the southern part of the district, particularly in the area of FM 529, Greenhouse and Fry Road represents the most pressing need for enrollment relief for our high schools," added Edwards in the release.
The Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is at 10300 Jones Road, Houston.
