Professional-attire suit drive for job seekers continues through March 8

Lone Star College-CyFair is holding a campus and community-wide suit drive to benefit disadvantaged women seeking job interviews through Friday, March 8.

The collection drive is part of the Dress For Success Houston program, and is titled S.O.S., or Send One Suit, led by the college's Counseling, Career and Disability Services Department, according to an LSC press release.

The LSC program is a nonprofit organization, providing interview-appropriate suits and career development to aid low-income women seeking to enter the workforce.

"Dress for Success Houston understands that if a woman doesn't have a job, she can't afford a suit," said Susan Siceluff, coordinator for employment development at LSC, in the press release. "Without a suit, she can't get a job. By donating professional attire to our suit drive, you will be helping someone less fortunate get on the road to success, including some of our students."

Items needed in the drive include skirts, pants, blouses, handbags, shoes, scarves and new pantyhose. Cash or check donations are also needed. Checks should be made payable to Dress For Success Houston.

Donations are needed most in sizes 13 to 34, and a $75 gift will fully fund one suit with accessories.

Tax-deductible donations may be dropped off at the front desk of the Counseling, Career and Disability Services Department in the Center for Academic and Student Affairs, Room 109. It is at 9191 Barker Cypress Road, in Cypress.

LSC-Cy-Fair offers career counseling services year-round and hosts monthly campus and annual community job fairs for area residents.
