Changes to High School Grad Requirements
I am on Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District's Key Communicator" distribution list and will reprint those letters from Superintendent David Anthony when I receive them.
This letter that details changes to state graduation requirements was sent out last week, and because it takes effect in the 2010-11 year, I though all parents of intermediate and high school-aged children would want to see it.
Dear Key Communicator:
Texas Commissioner of Education, Robert Scott, announced that the TAKS Accountability System will now become known as STARR. The new state rating system will debut in 2013. In addition to the new accountability system, state graduation requirements have been amended and will be effective with the 2010-2011 school year.
A student may choose from one of three programs for a graduation plan: Recommended High School Program (RHSP), Minimum High School Program (MHSP) or Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP). The majority of our students graduate under the Recommended High School Program. A chart detailing changes in all three programs is (available at http://www.cfisd.net/key/2010/key_020910graduation.pdf) for your review.
In addition, on February 8, 2010, the (Cy-Fair ISD) Board approved 1/2 credit of health and 1/2 credit of advanced academic strategies (AAS) as local graduation requirements.
Please feel free to share this information with others in our community. For your convenience, this letter along with the state graduation requirements will be posted on the district website at www.cfisd.net.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Anthony, superintendent
Cypress-Fairbanks ISD
