11-3 campaign pleases Cy Woods

By TODD HVEEM
Chronicle correspondent
The Cy Woods Wildcats didn't exactly get the kind of ending they wanted to the 2009 football season.
But, after all the dust had settled, David Jones was pretty proud of his team's 11-3 campaign.
We are proud of our kids and I am proud of the coaching staff for us to be able to do this well,'' said Jones, who has guided his club to the Region II-5A semifinals and Region II-5A finals in back-to-back years.
We have created a lot of excitement in the school and the community. There is definitely an expectation around here of a lot of success.''
Cy Woods' season ended with a tough 55-12 loss to
Round Rock Stony Point in the regional championship game.
They are the best team we have played,'' Jones said of Stony Point. They did not have the best assembly of athletes, but they did a great job as a team.''
Cy Woods next year will return quarterback Colton Huntsman and standout Westin Card. It also returns several defensive linemen.
We have to revamp our secondary and get some more receivers,'' Jones said. But having Colton back is a great place to start. He had a great year. He is a really special kid.''
Jones was one of 10 coaches nominated for the Touchdown Club's Coach of the Year award.
That felt good,'' admitted Jones, but that is obviously not me. My assistant guys deserve it. They do a great job of coaching kids and they do what they are asked to do.''
