The Langham Creek Lobos will try and keep pace with Cy-Fair and Cy Woods in the District 15-5A baseball race when they travel to meet Jersey Village at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Langham Creek, which has been a perennial power under head coach Armando Sedeno, is picked to challenge Cy Falls and Cy Ranch for the final two playoff spots in 15-5A.
The Lobos are led by twins Garrett and Mitchell Juergens, who both play in the outfield.
Langham Creek also has a couple of the top pitchers in the area in Jacob Leonhardt and Jeff Romine.
Jersey Village, which is picked to finish near the bottom of the 10-team league, owns an 11-1 win over Seven Lakes.
ABOUT THE GAME
Matchup: Langham Creek vs. Jersey Village
When: 7 p.m. Tuesday
Where: Jersey Village High School
At stake: A good start to a very long district race. Each of the 10 conference teams will play 17 district games three more than a normal district season.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Langham Creek: Garrett Juergens (OF), Mitchell Juergens (OF); Jacob Leonhardt (P); Jeff Romine (P).
Jersey Village: Steven Ellis (P); Matthew Moore (P); Garrett Gorka (RF).
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
Langham Creek: The Lobos have been chasing Cy-Fair for the past five years in the District 15-5A race. This year should be no exception. But the Lobos have the talent to come out on top if their pitching holds up through a long 17-game district grind. Armando Sedeno also is the master of getting the most out of his players.
Jersey Village: The Falcons are always a threat to pull off an upset, especially at home. Jersey Village has had a tough time keeping up with most of the Cy-Fair schools in the past few years, but a win over Langham Creek to start district play could give the Falcons the boost they need to make a surprising playoff run.
